What Is Guaranteed ?

There are few things in life that are guaranteed. We have all heard “Death” and “Taxes”.. and there is one thing that I have learned which I suggest is a huge key to being able to embrace life each day and face whatever you may find yourself presented with: Life really is about how you choose to deal with “whatever happens next” – and making good choices.
Fact: Almost nothing in life is guaranteed.
Our health and the health of our families and friends, people’s employment, mechanical issues with vehicles, machines, appliances, office equipment: Many things happen unexpectedly and how we choose to react is key towards success, happiness, and reducing stress: Your own, and the stress levels of those around you.
Fact: We can only control what we can control. Be the best at what you are doing and tackle whatever is facing you “next” with the most sincere “attitude of gratitude” that you can.
Fact: Things most often could be so much worse. Perspective matters. Finding a point of perspective – and knowing when you need to – with the ability to pause, “take a breath” before you react and act, is helpful to everyone.
Fact: Less is More. Brevity, clarity, and good communication skills will help to achieve more each day, increase personal and professional productivity.. and those around you will appreciate if you can do this with a smile, and with sincere gratitude.
Fact: Sincerity matters.
Fact: Being on time matters!
Fact: Doing what you say you are going to do, matters.
The above 3 facts are about respect.
And eliminating perceived disrespect.

Being Prepared

Well this is an interesting weekend shaping-up here in our delightful Maine Lakes Region. We are predicted to receive anywhere from 4″ to 10″ of snow early this weekend, and the real story will unfold starting Sunday afternoon through Monday with a true Nor’Easter snowstorm heading our way. One of the most important things we can talk about is safety, and preparedness. One of the most important items to discuss with safety is carbon monoxide poisoning. Do not run a generator either in a garage, shed or basement as a generator needs to run only in the open due to the exhaust fumes. Be aware that many new home construction furnaces do not vent up through a roof chimney and the outside aluminum cover for the furnace exhaust vent can be located low near ground level. If the vent becomes covered in a snowdrift and the furnace exhaust fumes back up into the home, a very dangerous or deadly situation could develop. If you have elderly friends or neighbors who might be on crutches, etc, everyone here at Anne Plummer & Associates wants to remind us all to keep an eye open for your neighbors and those in need during what looks like it could be a storm measured in feet instead of inches. The most impressive part of this storm could be the winds late Sunday into Monday with some predicting sustained winds of 50-60mph during the storm peak. Coupled with 18-36 inches of snow this will certainly make traveling for the simplest of reasons, likely difficult or impossible. Such winds often result in widespread power outages so candles, alternative sources for heat, plenty of batteries and enough food and water for the household for a few days is a prudent step.
Let’s look out for our neighbors and please keep an eye open for any situation where any exhaust from any motor vehicle, generator, or furnace could affect clean air. If you must travel, do so with caution and supplies on board, should you become stranded or without gas.
Let’s hope the news next week does not include any personal tragedies for anyone here in New England and especially here in our beloved great Maine Lakes Region. Be Safe!

One Year Ago..

What a difference a year makes. Last year this weekend not too many people in this region were as excited about the big game as the Patriots were also getting ready to watch the Super Bowl on TV. So for many here in the great Maine Lakes Region last year’s super bowl between __________ and ____________ did not result in as many plans for this Sunday afternoon and evening, in 2016.
How many of you were able to quickly fill in the blanks with the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos? Do you remember last year’s score? Denver won by a couple of touchdowns 24-10. A year from now, most everyone in the Maine Lakes Region I expect, will remember the results of whatever Super Bowl 51 has in store for us this weekend.
Some things are similar this year though. Big Sebago Lake is mostly open water again this year, even as we approach a full week into February. It appears there will be no big Sebago lake ice fishing again this year, unless we get some very cold weather for many consecutive days in a row very soon, so this will be the second year in a row with no ice fishing on some of our biggest lakes. However, just like last year – and this it true every year at this time – our peak winter times can be the very best opportunity to look at homes, lots, land, and property. You can often investigate property most easily walking over what may be wetlands, streams, any small ponds, and you can almost always REALLY see what things look like with no vegetation. Your view of your neighbors, and their view of you and your property, can vary significantly between late summer and February. Here at Anne Plummer & Associates we hope that your favorite team is playing this weekend, and if not, that the game is a good one and that your weekend is also safe and fun.. just like all of your Real Estste needs are, when working together with us!
