Coffee Pond, Casco

Coffee Pond in Casco is remarkable for two things. One is that it so deep for a pond so small. It has a surface area of 106 acres, but has a maximum depth of 70 feet - very deep for a pond so small. It also garners a water quality rating of "excellent" from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, its highest rating. The pond is about a mile long and a 1/4 mile wide.

Coffee Pond is spring-fed and the fishing is considered excellent. Fishermen in small boats patrol its 2.5 mile shoreline and find this pond offers a fine habitat for brook trout, bass, and smelt. Coffee Pond is closed to winter fishing. Special regulations are in effect on brook trout, bass, and smelt. Anglers need to consult their law books to note special regulations in effect on this water. Access is limited to canoes and small boats at a small, unimproved landing adjacent to the outlet.

Camp Cedar, a summer camp for boys established in 1954, is located on Coffee Pond. So, too, are several camps and cottages, mostly of the modest variety used as "getaways" and retreats from more active daily life.

Coffee Pond sits only 7 miles from Route 302 in Raymond, but that seven miles provides a world of distance. If a small pond with sparkling clean water and great fishing are what you have in mind, Coffee Pond may be just what you're looking for.
