Sand (Walden) Pond, Denmark

Sand Pond in Denmark was originally called Little Hancock Pond, in deference to its neighbor, and is also called Walden Pond, after the girl's camp located there since 1916.

Sand Pond is 248 acres in surface area, has a maximum depth of 44 feet, a mean depth of 12 feet, and is 4.7 miles around its perimeter. It has a water quality rating of "above average" as determined by the Maine Department of Environmental protection.

Sport fishing is enjoyed here and fishermen can count on finding brown trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, and shiners among the species. There is no public boat access here, so you might want to become one of the 83 shorefront property owners on this pond.

Hidden away and off the beaten path, Sand Pond is an excellent pond for those who crave peace and quiet more than large boating activities. This pond is more suited to canoeing and kayaking than anything much larger than a trolling motor.
