Town of Waterford
The town of Waterford is made up of several small villages and is home to some of the nicest lakes and ponds in the area.
South Waterford lies to the north of Bear Pond, Waterford Flat begins on the shores Keoka Lake and has many fine traditional, white clapboard homes, East Waterford is anchored by Springer's Store, and North Waterford is home to a bison ranch, Melby's General Store, the Five Kezars ponds, and the famous "Waterford World's Fair".
Besides the previously mentioned Bear Pond and Keoka Lake, Waterford is home to McWain Pond, Papoose Pond, Little Moose Pond, and the north end of Island Pond. Many children's summer camps are located here, including Fernwood Cove on Island Pond, Camp Wigwam on Bear Pond, and Camp Waziyatah and Birch Rocks Camp on McWain Pond.
Family campgrounds can be found on Keoka Lake and Papoose Pond and there are several B&Bs in Waterford including the Waterford Inne, The Bear Mountain Inn, the Kedarburn Inn, and the Lake House Inn.
Climbing up Hawk or Bear Mountain affords spectacular views of the area and a shorter hike up Mount Tire'm in Waterford Flat is very satisfying with a nice view of Keoka Lake. There's a public boat launch and beach area at the head of Keoka Lake and great fishing is enjoyed at all the lakes, ponds, and streams of Waterford.
Make sure to check out the Waterford Library's annual book sale around the 4th of July and, in the fall, Waterford is host to a Chili Cookoff and 5k Road Race to benefit a local charity.
