Town of Windham

The town of Windham, situated 10 miles from the City of Portland, is the gateway community for the Sebago Lakes Region. A unique mix of outdoor recreation opportunities, shopping, entertainment, and a relatively low tax burden makes Windham an attractive community for both individuals and businesses alike.

The town is crossed by U.S. routes 202 and 302, and state routes 4, 35, and 115. It borders the towns of Standish and Gorham to the west, Westbrook to the south, Falmouth and Cumberland to the east, Gray to the northeast and Raymond to the north.

Over the last 50 years, Windham has grown from a sleepy bedroom community to a center of business and commerce that serves a wide geographic area north and west of Portland. Large retailers such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Lowes have located here as well as national franchise businesses such as McDonald's, Burger King, Dunkin' Donuts, and Staples. In additional there are many locally owned and operated businesses serving a wide variety of interests from hardware and home furnishings, to restaurants and car dealers.

But Windham is much more than just a convenient place to shop. Located on the east shore of Sebago Lake and encompassing the southern end of Little Sebago Lake, Windham has been a destination for lovers of freshwater recreation for many years. Of course, Sebago Lake is famous for its fishing and boating, but the same can be said for Little Sebago Lake, as well. Perhaps small compared with Big Sebago, nonetheless Little Sebago Lake is almost seven miles long and has within its shoreline a wide variety of lakefront environments from its more populated southern end to its wilder and more remote northern end.

Just 20 minutes from the Maine Turnpike and a half hour from downtown Portland, this town of 15,000 that sits at the opening of western Maine's beautiful lakes region has much to recommend it.
