Welcome to the beginning of week 3, February 2023, and do not forget that Valentine’s Day is fast approaching on this coming Tuesday.  The weather looks oddly delightful if you like warmth in the month of February. It does not look favorable if you enjoy winter sports in the great Maine Lakes Region such as snowmobiling, ice fishing, or cross country skiing, though the mountains may experience great “Springlike” conditions for skiing and snowboarding. With temperatures predicted to press upwards towards 60 degrees in many areas, this mid-winter thaw is far from normal here in the region. Please be aware that it was just announced this week, on Feb 8th, that the Cumberland County Ice Fishing Derby will still take place on the 18th & 19th this year, but, the Sebago Lake portion of the derby has now been cancelled. The official reason listed was “due to unsafe ice conditions”, however living near the lake, we can assure you that it is because of no ice conditions, with well over 90% of the lake still experiencing open water. The organizers smartly considered the above normal temperatures that are forecasted these next couple of weeks, making next weekend a no-go for ice fishing on the Sebago Lake portion of the tournament for this very popular local annual event. Please keep an eye and an ear open as to the status of the other components of this annual fundraiser on the smaller lakes here in Cumberland County, as this tournament event is still on as of now, for the smaller bodies of water.
Who do you like in the big game?  The Kansas City Chiefs are back to defend last year’s Super Bowl win, and the Philadelphia Eagles will have a lot to say about that, as their team has had a great season this year. Please party safely!
